KARLOVARSKÝ SYMFONICKÝ ORCHESTR

Ladies and gentlemen,

the City of Karlovy Vary offers many services and cultural events. Allow me to invite you to regular concerts of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra with famous and favourite music composed by A. Dvořák, B. Smetana, W. A. Mozart, P. I. Tchaikovsky, and other masters, but also evenings of operas and operettas on the program.

The orchestra belongs to the oldest European orchestras. It was established in 1835 by Josef Labický as a seasonal spa ensemble. Forty years later August Labický changed it into a permanent symphonic orchestra with a versatile repertory. One of the most important events was the continental premiere of the Dvořák´s "New World Symphony" on 20th July 1894 in the Post Court.

Since the beginning of the 20th century the orchestra has cooperated with great conductors and soloists. Presently the internationally respected conductor Prof Stárek holds an appointment as the Chief conductor of the orchestra. The concerts season starts with the Dvořák Autumn Festival and continues with series of symphonic and opera and operetta concerts taking place on Fridays in the Dvořák's Hall in Spa III or in the Festive Hall of the Grandhotel Pupp throughout the year. In summer the orchestra organizes concerts at the Mill Colonnade as well.

We are looking forward to your visit.
Alois Ježek,
Director of Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra
